After a few years being known as Newtown Neurotics they dropped to the shorter Neurotics. One of the most important bands to emerge from Harlow they were (and are) big all over the world.

The Neurotics have a stunning track record - "When the Oil Runs Out", "Mindless Violence", "Kick Out the Tories"

John Peel was an early champion for them and played them regularly on his Radio One evening show. Steve Drewett formed The Indestructable beat in the early 90's but would reform Neurotics around 2000.

Neville The Sponge were set up by Alex Fleming after his other band The Pillage People had split up.

The line up was Alex on vocals, Mac on bass, Tony Bennet on drums and Dave Bygrave on guitar.

They entered Rock Competition in the early 90's

Formed in 1979 by Steve, they began like so many others to attempt to get their clumsy fingers around three chords. Sporting Joey Ramone length hair Steve would sneer at cries of "Bloody Hippie" from the audience but after a couple of numbers nobody cared they just went pogo frenzy. Singles "Hypocrite" and "When The Oil Runs out" were melodic punk of the type found in early eighties but written prior to the election of Thatcher. This event changed the non-political writing of Steve's lyrics and in June '82 "Kick Out The Tories" was released on CNT records. This double "A" side was shared with Mindless Violence

Punk band No Warning were Martin Brown on guitar and vocals, Mark Baxendale on bass and vocals and Robbie Tucker on drums.

Clive Richardson later joine on drums before Martin went off to join The Ol' Renes before forming Final Warning.

Final Warning entered the 1982 Rock Competition but failed to make the finals.

Obscene Toys were formed after Premature Death broke up. They were, Pete Doff, guitar, Stief Brett, vocals, Steve "Jack" Perry, drums and Paul Ross on bass.

On The Pulsebeat were Kevin Wells on bass, Ewart Richardson on guitar, Jane Hawkins on synth, Barry Rice on guitar and Ray Davies on drums.

In 1985 after recording "Castles In The Air" Jane left and Jo Maskell joined. They recorded "FIVE" together.

They entered the Rock Competition in 1984 and 1985 but failed to reach finals on both occasions.

After the demiss of legendary soulful rockers Respect Andy Cleall turne his attention to reggea.

Bringing smooth reggea to Harlow One To One were Andy Cleall on guitar and vocals, Vince Randall on guitar, Dennis Dance on drums, Grant Bowden on bass and Mickey James on keyboards.

Very big locally for a time.

Hugely succesful rock band. Built up a large following and toured throughout Europe in the early 80's.

OPMs first line up was Rik Mitchell on vocals, Martin Noone on guitar, Chris Banford on guitar, Steve Ellis on bass and Chris Jones on drums. Clive Brown replaced Rik on vocals around 1983 and Alan Mead replaced Chris on drums shortly after that.

OPM entered Rock Competition in 1981 failing to reach the final but won the competition in 1982.

Orgazmatron have had four lives so far. Each one threatening to be the last.

Phase one started with Shaun Clark on guitar, Dale Bradbury on drums, Reece Jones on vocals, James Street on guitar and Joe Farrow on bass. Phase two was with Derrick Carr-Rickwood on bass. For phase three they slimmed to a four piece, Shaun taking over bass with Dale, Reece and James finishing line-up off.

The latest Phase has Shaun back on guitar and a fifth member, Joshua Clark, on bass.
