Carte Blanche were formed around 1983 and consisted of Grant Bowden on drums, Pete "The Ash" Ashby on guitar, Jay Scott on keyboards, with Peter Hawkins on bass. They released a tape in 1984 called Idle Gossip. Carte Blanche entered the 1984 Rock Competition but failed to reach the finals. |

Duo Mark Brown, guitar/vocals and Steve Bevan, bass/vocals became a mainstay on the rock/folk scene in the early 1980's. They entered the Harlow Rock Competition in 1981 and 1982 but failed to reach finals on both attempts. They produced a cassette, "Chameleon I", in the early 80's. Mark went on to do some solo gigs after that. |

Purveyer of fine reggea and dub Chris Fallon was a member of The Internationalists before starting his own outfits Christian F and The Hard Left and What's Left! Chris was also to be seen recording and mixing many bands at The Square studio as well as doing mixing duties for many a gig at The Square. These days Chris mans the decks occasionally bringing his deep dub bass sound to The Square. |

Blue Heaven were formed after Kevin Wells, bass, left The Foundation and joined up with Ewart Richardson on guitar, Jane Hawkins on synth, Barry Rice on guitar and keyboards and Ray Davies on drums. They soon changed their name to (Dancing) On The Pulsebeat. When Jane left and Jo Maskell joined they changed their name to the shorter "On The Pulsebeat". They entered the Rock Competition in 1984 and 1985 but failed to reach finals. |

Dark Horse were Keith Brown on drums, Mark Walshe on guitar and vocals and Paul Howard on bass and vocals. Keith Brown had previously been in Wild West. Mark Walshe would go on to form The Clinic and Some Other Day whilst Paul Howard went on to form This Happy Breed. They recorded a live tape at The Square in 1983 with Richard Holgarth at recording controls. |

Packing out pubs and clubs this duo played classic songs in a none too serious way and became one of the highlights of the local pub scene. Murray Torkildsen, guitar and vocals and Richard Holgarth, guitar and vocals mixed classic songs with their own songs from their own catalogues. Unfortunately no tapes exsisit of this duo. |

(Deaf) Wish were, Clive Brown on vocals, Chris Wood, bass, John Meyhew, guitar, Chris Grigg, drums, and Andy McCartney on bass. They entered the Rock Competition in 1981 but failed to make the finals. Clive Brown left to join OPM and Terry Boldick replaced him as singer. Clive later formed the legendary Son of Rupert The Fridge. Classic. |

After singing for a short while with Burn John McConnachie started his first band, Destroyer. For this band John was joined by John Ashbee, bass, Joe Williams, guitar, and Paul Locklin on drums. Paul was later replaced by Keith Spooner. John McConnachie went on to form Sweat Band and John Ashbee went to join Tin Box Parade. |
